In 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' (1984), American teenager Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp) begins to suffer from nightmares, only to discover that many of her friends are having similarly disturbed nights' sleep. Their dreams are haunted by the hideously scarred former child murderer Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) who, it soon transpires, has the power to kill them in their sleep. Freddy is out to exact his revenge on the children of those who burned him alive in retribution for his crimes, and the only way to avoid his reprisals is to avoid sleep - but Nancy knows that she can't stay awake for ever. In 'A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge' (1985), the Walsh family have moved into the house formerly owned by the Thompsons and it is not long before teenage son Jesse (Mark Patton) is having bad dreams. He and girlfriend Lisa (Kim Myers) attempt to work out what is happening to him, but before long Jesse becomes convinced that Freddy has taken over his body in order to continue his murderous rampage. In 'A Nightmare On Elm Street: Dream Warriors' (1987), Nancy, now a psychiatric doctor, teams up with Dr Neil Goldman (Craig Wasson) when a group of teenagers at his hospital begin to suffer a shared nightmare and soon realises that Freddy has returned to continue wreaking his revenge on the descendants of those who killed him. In 'A Nightmare On Elm Street: The Dream Master' (1988), Freddy has killed off all the children who originally punished him for his crimes, but now he's back and killing their friends. Luckily, Alice Johnson (Lisa Wilcox), one of the endangered kids, has the special ability to bring others into her dreams. She is the Dream Master and therefore the only one who can stop Freddy from wreaking more of his murderous havoc. In 'A Nightmare On Elm Street: The Dream Child' (1989), Alice is expecting a baby. Unfortunately for her, the meddlesome Freddy finds out about this and begins to control the foetus's dreams, hoping that the birth will be his means of returning to the land of the living. The Dream Master sets to work, taking the battle to Krueger one final time. In 'Freddy's Dead - The Final Nightmare' (1991), having wiped out all the children in his hometown, dreamstalking psycho killer Freddy decides it is time to head for pastures new. Luckily for him, he happens across a home for troubled teens and is soon indulging his unspeakable appetites once again. Finally, in 'Wes Craven's New Nightmare' (1994), a coda to the series in which Craven and his producer play themselves, persuading the now grown-up Heather Langenkamp to return to Elm Street one more time. However, there is an additional evil force at work in the jungle, something not human. The mercenaries are picked off one by one and soon Schaefer must face the alien predator alone. In the 1990 follow-up, 'Predator 2', crime-riddled futuristic Los Angeles becomes the target of an alien predator, killing drug lords and police alike. A maverick cop (Danny Glover) and a federal agent (Gary Busey) set out to capture the creature. Adrien Brody and Lawrence Fishburne star in the much later third film, 'Predators' (2010). Produced by Robert Rodriguez, the film follows contract killer Royce (Brody) as he is abducted by alien creatures and released along with seven other professional killers onto a strange and hostile planet. Set in Middle Earth 60 years before events in 'The Lord of the Rings', 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' (2012) follows the adventures of hobbit Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), who, at the instigation of the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen), suddenly finds himself co-opted into joining a company of 13 Dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) to help reclaim the dwarves' lost kingdom of the Lonely Mountain from the clutches of a dragon. After setting out on their quest from the safety of Bag End, the band of travellers soon find themselves pitted against a range of strange and fearsome opponents, in addition to a small, slimy creature known simply as Gollum (Andy Serkis). In 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' (2013), while Gandalf heads south on his own, Bilbo, Thorin and the dwarves enter the treacherous Mirkwood Forest on their way to the mountain. When they reach Lake-town Bilbo has to perform the role he was assigned at the start of the quest - to find a secret door that will lead him to the lair of Smaug the dragon (voice of Benedict Cumberbatch). In the final instalment, 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies' (2014), Bilbo, Thorin and the other dwarves have unintentionally released Smaug from the Lonely Mountain and endangered the residents of Lake-town. Bilbo has to make a difficult decision when Thorin puts his desire to find the royal jewel Arkenstone before his loyalty to his friends. Meanwhile, Gandalf discovers that the evil Sauron has returned, commanding a horde of Orcs to attack the Lonely Mountain. Bilbo and his friends must fight for their survival as five armies meet in battle. In 'The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring' (2001) Frodo (Elijah Wood) is a hobbit living in the Shire, a quiet, peaceful part of Middle Earth. When it turns out that his elderly relative Bilbo (Ian Holm) is harbouring the ultimate Ring of Power and the evil Nazgul riders of Sauron are coming to find it, Frodo is entrusted by wizard Gandalf to deliver the Ring out of the Shire without it falling into their hands. Frodo leaves the Shire aided by his cousins Merry (Dominic Monaghan), Pippin (Billy Boyd) and trusty friend Sam Gamgee (Sean Astin), but they soon realise that the agents of Mordor are everywhere and that their trip is far from over. Once they reach the Elvish realm of Rivendell the hobbits form part of the anti-Sauron fellowship, which includes Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Boromir (Sean Bean), Legolas (Orlando Bloom), Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) and Gandalf. Together they must battle across Middle Earth to destroy the Ring by casting it into Mount Doom, the fiery chasm in the centre of Mordor. In 'The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers' (2002) the Fellowship of the Ring has now divided and Sam and Frodo are lost in the hills of Emyn Muil. They are also being followed by Gollum, a creature who promises to help them travel to Mordor. Meanwhile Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli search for the hobbits Merry and Pippin in the Kingdom of Rohan, which is currently being attacked by Saruman's orc armies. Gandalf returns as Gandalf the White to remind Aragorn of his destiny to unite the people of Rohan with Gondor. Whilst the Fellowship is not travelling together they must unite against the powerful forces coming from the Two Towers: Orthanc Tower in Isengard where Saruman has bred a deadly army of 10,000, and Sauron's fortress at Barad-dûr. Finally, in 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' (2003), Gandalf manages to rally Gondor's fallen army with the help of King Theoden of Rohan (Bernard Hill) for the biggest battle in the history of Middle Earth. Meanwhile, Aragorn finally faces up to his noble responsibilities. Although outnumbered, Gandalf's army are determined to keep Sauron distracted in order to enable Frodo to complete his quest to destroy the Ring by throwing it into the fires of Mount Doom.<br/><br/><i>Typ: Blu-ray / Remastered Box Set</i>
