'Seven Samurai' (1954) tells the story of a group of 17th-century warriors recently detached from the powerful masters who once paid them. Veteran samurai Kambei (Takashi Shimura) is the leader of the group hired by the residents of a village suffering at the hands of a marauding band of thieves. Five of his cohorts are trained warriors, but the sixth, Kikuchiyo (Toshiro Mifune), is actually the son of a farmer, desperate to earn his spurs on the battlefield. The basics of the story served as the blueprint for the western classic 'The Magnificent Seven'. 'Throne of Blood' (1957), Akira Kurosawa's film version of 'Macbeth', transfers the action to medieval Japan. A samurai warrior (Toshiro Mifune) is urged to murder his lord (Takashi Shimura) and his best friend (Minoru Chiaki) by a forest spirit and an ambitious wife (Isuzu Yamada). Kurosawa renders 'the Scottish play' through the conventions of traditional Japanese Noh theatre, creating what was reputedly TS Eliot's favourite film. The famous ending sees Toshiro Mifune caught under hails of arrows. Winner of the Best Director Award at the 1959 Berlin Film Festival, 'The Hidden Fortress' (1958) is regarded by many to be one of Kurosawa's finest, and has been acknowledged by George Lucas as the principle inspiration for 'Star Wars'. Set in 16th-century Japan, the story centres on rival clans, hidden gold and a princess in distress. Tahei (Minoru Chaiki) and Matashichi (Kamatari Fujiwara) are two cowardly soldiers on the run from an advancing enemy army. As they search the country for a cache of secret gold, they join forces with Rokurota Makabe (Toshiro Mifune), a samurai warrior who is escorting a fiesty princess (Misa Uehara) through enemy territory. The mismatched travellers then have to fight a number of battles before they finally come within sight of their goal. Kurosawa combines elements of the western and the film noir in the classic adventure 'Yojimbo' (1961). Yojimbo (Toshiro Mifune), a freelance Samurai warrior, sells his services to rival factions in a small Japanese village. When he is betrayed, he turns his skills against his former employers, determined that the two warring sides should destroy each other. 'Yojimbo' was later remade by Sergio Leone as the Clint Eastwood spaghetti western 'A Fistful of Dollars'. In the samurai spoof 'Sanjuro' (1962), a sequel of sorts to 'Yojimbo', shabby samurai Sanjuro (Toshiro Mifune) teams up with eight young warriors who seek out corruption among the elders of their clan. They also embark on a mission to rescue a kidnapped chancellor from a corrupt war lord.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD / Box Set</i>

In 'Venom' (2018) journalist Eddie Brock (Hardy) is stuck in a professional rut and seeks out a story that will revive his career. When he starts investigating the survivalist group known as Life Foundation, Eddie finds himself face-to-face with a symbiotic alien which takes over his body. When Eddie discovers that the symbiote wishes to use his body as a vessel for committing murder, he must try to escape its clutches in order to save his own life. In 'Venom: Let There Be Carnage' (2021), as he adjusts to life as the host of the alien symbiote Venom, Eddie is granted an exclusive interview with incarcerated serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson). While he attempts to solve a murder case on behalf of Detective Patrick Mulligan (Stephen Graham), Cletus becomes the new host of symbiote Carnage and breaks out of prison to reunite with his former girlfriend Frances Barrison (Naomie Harris). Finally, in 'Venom: The Last Dance' (2024), Eddie and Venom are forced to go on the run when they are hunted by forces from both of their worlds. Knull (Andy Serkis), the creator of the symbiotes, has sent a Xenophage after them, believing they hold the key to freeing him from his imprisonment. Meanwhile, soldier Rex Strickland (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and scientist Teddy Payne (Juno Temple) are also seeking the pair. He enlists the help of his friend Cledus Snow (Reed) and along the way Bandit picks up runaway bride Carrie (Field), who turns out to be engaged to Texas Sheriff Buford Justice (Gleason)'s son Junior (Mike Henry). When Sheriff Justice finds out where Carrie is, he resolves to chase the Bandit all the way to Georgia if he has to. In 'Smokey and the Bandit 2' outlaw driver The Bandit is now an alcoholic down on his luck, who accepts the job of delivering an elephant to the Republican National Convention in just 24 hours. Once again, he calls upon the help of Cledus and Carrie, and when Sheriff Buford Justice hears about the Bandit's latest ploy, he is determined to catch him this time. In 'Smokey and the Bandit 3' two entrepreneurs hire truck driver Cledus to deliver a replica shark from Miami to a seafood restaurant in Texas. On the way, Cledus is mistaken by Sheriff Justice (Gleason) for his old enemy The Bandit, and a high-speed chase ensues as Buford and his son, Junior, set out to apprehend him.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD / Box Set</i>

In the wake of his parents' murder, disillusioned industrial heir Bruce Wayne (Bale) travels the world seeking the means to fight injustice and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful. He returns to Gotham and unveils his alter-ego: Batman, a masked crusader who uses his strength, intellect and an array of high-tech deceptions to fight the sinister forces that threaten the city. The sequel 'The Dark Knight' (2008), sees Gotham's avenging angel squaring-up to a new kid on the block - psychotic prankster, the Joker (Heath Ledger, in the role that won him a posthumous Oscar for Best Supporting Actor). In the space of a year, Batman (Bale), aided by Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) and new District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), has managed to rid Gotham's streets of the organised crime gangs that once ravaged the city. But just when the authorities think they're finally making progress in their fight against crime, the appearance on the streets of a sinister new figure, with a demented grin and a passion for chaos, causes panic among the good people of Gotham, and leads to a battle of wits between Batman and the Joker which threatens to get extremely personal. Finally, 'The Dark Knight Rises' (2012), set eight years on from the events of the 'The Dark Knight', sees Batman returning to save Gotham City from the evil clutches of brutal terrorist Bane (Tom Hardy) and his enigmatic sidekick, Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway). However, Batman's ability to act as an avenging angel is curtailed by the fact that he is now on Gotham City Police Department's Most Wanted list, having assumed responsibility for the crimes of deceased District Attorney Harvey Dent. In 'Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning' (2025) Hunt and the team continue their fight to prevent The Entity from starting a nuclear war that will destroy the world.
