Can this unlikely pairing prevent mass murder? In 'Armageddon' (1998), planet Earth comes under threat from an asteroid the size of Texas. NASA's attempt to avert global catastrophe involves sending a motley crew of oil drillers, led by Harry Stamper (Bruce Willis), into space, where they will drop a nuclear bomb into the asteroid's core. Amongst Stamper's team is A.J. (Ben Affleck), the headstrong suitor of his daughter (Liv Tyler), who waits on Earth alongside NASA chief Dan Truman (Billy Bob Thornton) for news of the mission's success. In 'Con Air' (1997), former Army Ranger Cameron Poe (Cage) is returning home on parole to his wife and child after serving eight years for manslaughter. The plane he is flying on is a special convict-only transport aircraft filled with some of the meanest and deadliest villains of them all. Once in the air the plane is hijacked by convict Cyrus 'The Virus' Grissom (John Malkovich), who gets rid of the crew of prison guards at the first scheduled stop, picking up more convicts as he does so. But US Marshal Vince Larkin (John Cusack) is already on his trail. Poe does his best to stop Grissom from escaping with the group of convicts, and just to complicate matters further his diabetic cellmate reveals that he will die if he does not receive his next insulin injection within two hours. In 'Enemy of the State' (1998), the National Security Agency is a covert organisation whose secret activities are protected by a state-of-the-art surveillance network operated by a team of first-rank techno-boffins. When a videotape proving their involvement in a recent political assassination falls into the hands of Washington DA Robert Clayton Dean (Will Smith), the agency do everything they can to encourage Dean's silence. But Dean is determined to reveal the truth, and teaming up with veteran anti-establishment surveillance expert Edward Lyle (Gene Hackman), he decides to play the government spies at their own game. In 'Crimson Tide' (1995), combat veteran Frank Ramsey (Hackman) and his second-in-command Ron Hunter (Denzel Washington) are the chief officers on board US nuclear submarine Crimson Tide. They are heading for Russia, ready to intervene in an escalating crisis which could result in the outbreak of World War III. When they then receive orders to launch their missiles, Ramsay and Hunter clash over the validity of the command and mutiny ensues. In 'Deja Vu' (2006), when a ferry filled with crewmen from the USS Nimitz and their families is blown up in New Orleans, Federal Agent Doug Carlin (Washington) is brought in to help with the investigation. He becomes attached to an experimental FBI surveillance unit that uses spacefolding technology to look back a little over four days into the past. While tracking down the bomber Carlin gets an idea in his head: could they use the device to actually travel back in time and not only prevent the bombing but also the murder of a local woman whose truck was used in the atrocity? In 'Gone in Sixty Seconds' (2000), legendary car thief Randall 'Memphis' Raines (Cage) is forced to come out of retirement when his brother Kip (Giovanni Ribisi) ends up in debt to a ruthless mobster. Charged with stealing fifty cars in three days, Randall sets about reassembling his old team - including former lover Sara 'Sway' Wayland (Angelina Jolie), mechanic Otto Halliwell (Robert Duvall) and the silent but strong Toby (Vinnie Jones) - but faces further challenges in the form of rival car thief Donny (Chi McBride) and local detective Roland Castlebeck (Delroy Lindo), who would love to put Randall behind bars once and for all. In 'Pearl Harbor' (2001), Rafe McCawley (Affleck) is a gung-ho US pilot whose determination to fly against the enemy leads him to Europe and active service in the Battle of Britain. His girlfriend Evelyn (Kate Beckinsale) is left waiting at the Pearl Harbor naval base in Hawaii, and before long tragedy strikes, with the news reaching Evelyn that Rafe has flown off to the great aircraft hanger in the sky. Heartbroken, she is comforted by Rafe's best friend Danny (Josh Hartnett), and romance soon blooms between them. In his 20s, while exploring the nature of his origins, Clark (Henry Cavill) meets and later becomes romantically involved with Lois Lane (Amy Adams), an inquisitive reporter from The Daily Planet newspaper. When an evil force threatens the Earth and its inhabitants, Clark resumes his true identity as a superhero and fights to save the planet. In 'Batman V Superman - Dawn of Justice: Ultimate Edition' (2016), concerned that Superman (Cavill)'s powers may get out of hand if he isn't kept under control, vigilante Batman (Ben Affleck) leaves Gotham City for Metropolis where the two heroes find themselves in a head-to-head battle. Meanwhile, a terrifying evil threatens the safety of the human race. Will Batman and Superman be able to defeat their common enemy and save the day? Finally, in 'Zack Snyder's Justice League' (2021), following Superman's death, and with the world mourning his demise, Batman and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) unite to form a team of superheroes to protect Earth from the looming invasion of Steppenwolf (voice of Ciarán Hinds) and his army of Parademons. They recruit metahumans Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) to join them. However, when his friend and mentor Colonel Trautman is captured in war-torn Afghanistan, Rambo sets out to save him. Finally, in 'Rambo' (2008), since helping the mujahedeen rid Afghanistan of the Russians, John Rambo has been living a quiet life in northern Thailand, trapping poisonous snakes to sell to local entertainers. But when a group of human rights missionaries pleads with him to ferry them upstream to Burma to re-supply the oppressed Karen tribe, Rambo reluctantly agrees. A few weeks later, however, word filters through that the missionaries have been taken hostage by the Burmese military, who are using them as pawns in their local war. This time the location is Miami, where O'Conner has been making money out of street racing and is tasked with bringing down the drugs baron Carter Verone (Cole Hauser) in exchange for wiping clean his criminal record. In 'The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift' (2006) street racing loner Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) avoids jail time by absconding to Tokyo to live with his uncle in a cramped apartment. In the land that gave birth to the majority of modified racers on the road, the simple street race has been replaced by drift racing, an even more deadly combination of brutal speed on heart-stopping courses. Boswell inevitably gets drawn into the racing and the complexities of the underworld which surround it. In 'Fast & Furious' (2009) fugitive ex-con Dominic Toretto reignites his feud with agent O'Conner on the streets of Los Angeles, but as the two men find themselves facing a common enemy in the form of a heroin importer, their attempts to infiltrate his operation result in an unlikely alliance. In 'Fast & Furious 5' (2011) Toretto and his sister Mia (Jordana Brewster) are forced to enlist O'Conner's help once again as they find themselves cornered by a ruthless drugs gang in Rio de Janeiro. But the Rio gangsters are not the only ones on Toretto's tail; wily federal agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) has also been assigned to track down the pair, and will stop at nothing to corner his prey. In 'Fast & Furious 6' (2013) Toretto and the rest of his compatriots are forced to kill time lying low in different locations around the world following their lucrative Rio heist. When agent Hobbs offers Toretto and his crew full pardons in return for taking down Owen Shaw (Luke Evans)'s gang of mercenary drivers, the offer seems too good to pass. But as the rivals head for a showdown on the streets of London, Toretto learns that Shaw's second in command is none other than his presumed dead former lover, Letty (Michelle Rodriguez). In 'Fast & Furious 7' (2015) the group are now being targeted by Shaw's ex-special forces brother Deckard (Jason Statham). Left with no choice but to defend themselves, it isn't long before Toretto, Hobbs, O'Conner and the rest of the gang become embroiled in a feud between international terrorists and the US government. Finally, in 'Fast & Furious 8' (2017) the team are left shocked when their leader Toretto betrays them after being seduced into a world of crime by international cyberterrorist Cipher (Charlize Theron). However, when he gets to Marbella Pat is enticed by a lucrative drug deal and calls for his two most trusted sidemen, Tony Tucker (Terry Stone) and Craig Rolfe (Roland Manookian), to help him finalise the deal. However, things do not go quite according to plan... In 'Rise of the Footsoldier: Origins' (2021) Tony Tucker returns from serving in the Falklands War and begins forging a reputation as an enforcer in the Essex criminal underworld. When he meets local drug dealer Craig Rolfe, Tucker expands his business dealings from managing nightclub doors, culminating in a violent gangland war. Finally, in 'Rise of the Footsoldier: Vengeance' (2023), Pat is reeling from the death of his most loyal footsoldier and swears his bloody vengeance on those responsible. However, as the police begin to suspect Pat's involvement in the grisly murder, Pat must work quickly to avenge his friend's death before he is sent down for the crime.
