<b>A vivid showcase of work by more than thirty of the world's leading contemporary female documentary photographers.</b><br/><br/>The photographic industry - its exhibitions, galleries, publications and auctions - employs thousands of women, but champions mostly men. To begin to redress the balance, here is a timely presentation of the work of over 30 female photographers working today. This book is predominantly a celebration of some of the most inquisitive, intelligent and daring photography being created now. The stories the photographers tell are the most pressing social, political and personal issues seen through the female lens.<br/><br/>Firecracker, established in 2011 by Fiona Rogers, is a platform dedicated to supporting female photographers worldwide by showcasing their work. Building upon Firecracker's foundations, this book brings together photography that encompasses an eclectic variety of styles, techniques and locations, from Alma Haser's futuristic series of portraits that use origami to create 3D sculptures within the frame, to Laura El-Tantawy's filmic and intensely personal series on political protest in Cairo. There is a recurring theme throughout the book that serves to unite these extraordinary women and their work: the exploration of marginalized individuals and under-discussed subjects, seen by fresh eyes.<br/><br/>Fiona Rogers and Max Houghton offer insightful and expert authorship and curation. In their respective, well-established roles in the industry they understand, influence and advocate for contemporary documentary photography today.

<p>In his foreword to <em>The Ways of Paradise</em>, Peter Cornell presents this so-called found manuscript, the work of a now-deceased, obscure researcher who spent three decades in the National Library of Sweden working on his magnum opus. Upon his death, no trace of this work remains aside from this set of notes and fragments which form an enigmatic set of texts on the connections between art, literature, spirituality and the occult through history, with a particular focus on spirals and labyrinths. Ranging from the Crusades to Ruskin, Freud to surrealism, cubism, automatic writing, Duchamp, the Manhattan Project, Pollock and Smithson, this cult book, first published in Sweden in 1987, is translated into English for the first time by Saskia Vogel. </p>

<p>We know David Grossman&apos;s voice of ringing moral clarity from way back: since the late 1980s and The Yellow Wind, his classic work on the urgency of the two-state solution and the price paid by both occupier and occupied, he has been criticizing his country&apos;s government and pushing for paths to a lasting peace. Just after October 7th, 2023, he retreated inwards to ask himself anew these difficult and necessary questions about his beloved nation: How could this massacre have happened? How could the Netanyahu government, tangled in its web of scandals, have failed to protect its citizens? And did October 7 and the war that followed take with it the last hope of a two-state solution? He asks what the meaning and purpose of a Jewish state can be, when the core values of Judaism, with its reverence for the dignity of each human life, are cast aside, and how his people, so accustomed throughout history to being in the minority, have not proved able to exist as a majority with the dignity and humanity that the job demands. Ultimately, Grossman arrives at the most important question of all: Will there ever be a lasting peace in the region?</p>

<b>An unprecedented look at the design archives of the iconic sportswear brand.</b><br/><br/>In Autumn 2024 the Vitra Design Museum will present the first ever museum exhibition about Nike, the world's most revered sport brand. The exhibition and this accompanying catalogue mark the milestones in Nike's six decade history and explores its ascent into a global brand that holds a central role in popular culture. The focus of the exhibition is on Nike's design practice - from the company's beginnings in the 1960s and the design of its famous "swoosh" logo to iconic products such as Air Max Air Jordan and Vapor Fly, and current research devoted to future materials and sustainability.<br/><br/>The main source for the exhibition is the Department of Nike Archives, which contains a unique collection of drawings, prototypes and other documentation. The exhibition marks the most comprehensive access ever given to this archive. Among the objects on show are rarities and one-offs from the company's early days in the 1960s, original design drawings and prototypes of iconic sneaker models, historical documents and films, as well as the results of collaborations with creative figures such as Virgil Abloh and Marc Newson.<br/><br/><i>Nike: Form Follows Motion</i> traces Nike's design process, which begins with the scientific analysis of the human body in motion and material research and culminates in the finished product and its branding. Along with Nike designers like Bill Bowerman, Diane Katz, Tinker Hatfield and Eric Avar, athletes - from the world's greatest to the everyday - have played an important role in this design process.
