Hilma af Klint s works have taken the international art world by storm, more than one hundred years after they were created. Around the turn of the 20th century, the new spiritual and social movements of theosophy and later anthroposophy came to inspire the pioneers of modernism and abstract art Kandinsky, Mondrian, Malevich and Hilma af Klint. What was the zeitgeist that inspired such an artistic explosion?  This anthology is based on a seminar held at the Solomon R Guggenheim Museum in New York at the opening of its highly-acclaimed exhibition Hilma af Klint: Paintings for the Future in October 2018.

<p>This volume presents seven series of works by the pioneering artist Hilma af Klint. They were all created in the first half of the year 1920 and are the last paintings af Klint made before turning to watercolour and adopting a recognisable style of painting taught by Rudolf Steiner and his disciples. </p><p>The anthology is based on a seminar held at the Goethe-Institut London in conjunction with the exhibition Hilma af Klint: Painting the Unseen, which took place at the Serpentine Galleries during the spring of 2016.</p>

In this exhaustive book on Hilma af Klint published to date, twenty specialists in Modern Art, Art History, the History of Ideas and Religious Studies use their expertise to explore af Klint s unique artistry. The topics range from early Abstract Art and the impact of Darwin and Goethe s Colour Theory, to the importance of occult religious movements such as Theosophy and Anthroposophy which influenced the early modernists. Some of Hilma af Klint s own diary notes and research are also included.  <br/>The book is based on a seminar held in conjunction with the extremely successful exhibition Hilma af Klint A Pioneer of Abstraction in 2013 at Moderna Museet in Stockholm. The book has an epilogue by Daniel Birnbaum.<br/>This is a new edition that includes a recent essay by Kurt Almqvist, Hilma af Klint s Secret Teachings, Message and Philosophy , based on previously unpublished material. It investigates parts of Hilma af Klint s story that have not been looked at before: the background of her teachings and philosophy; the developments after her death in 1944 up until the formation of The Hilma af Klint Foundation in 1972; and the only heir to her works: the anthropologist Vice-Admiral Erik af Klint (1901 1981), the Foundation s founder and only donor.

<p>PANGEA is an autobiography written by the artist and author Björn Wessman today one of Swedens most distinguished contemporary artists. In his idiosyncratic image world he seeks the essence of nature within the present, in the magic of the unfolding of events. </p><p>In PANGEA, the origin of all landscapes, the reader gets to experience how the continents once again are united in his painterly world. With a poetical abstracting glance, a sonorous colouring is created, a unique image world we can refer to, where the frontiers of natural abstraction stimulate reflection upon our own relation to nature. Wessmans art is far beyond the established representational codes. It constitutes a sort of resilience, in the form of a trust in natures own capacity to heal. </p><p>In PANGEA, we chronologically follow the painterly development of the artist in image and text, starting with the Stockholm art scene in 1981. In this richly illustrated book, Wessman writes of the working processes of the studio, of influences from other artists, of journeys to exotic places, and of his own Vindö Park, the three-dimensional painting.</p>

Gustav III s Collection including his own and other famous architects drawings, accompanied Gustav IV Adolf during his exile in 1809. The collection was returned to Sweden via a purchase in 1925 by the brothers Helge and Axel Ax:son Johnson and was inherited by Axel s daughter Marie-Claire. It is today stored at Engelsberg s Ironworks and is owned by the Marie-Claire Cronstedt Foundation. The drawings were made by Sweden s leading architects during the 17th- and 18th centuries and include, among others, the castles and gardens at Drottningholm, Ekolsund, Haga, Gripsholm, Karlberg, Ulriksdal, Svartsjö, Stockholm and Uppsala. Even Gustav III s own sketches are attributed. This book serves as a compendium to Gustav III His Own Architect where the drawings are reproduced in 1:1 format over three volumes.

<p>For a long time, few people knew about spiritualisms impact on the birth of abstract art. But when the Swedish art historian Sixten Ringboms book <i>The Sounding Cosmos</i> was published in 1970, the writing of history changed forever. Through his research on Wassily Kandinsky, one of the pivotal figures in modern art, Ringbom could show, among other things, how theosophy and esoteric teachings were absolutely essential to the development of non-figurative painting.  </p><p>This discovery generated great debate, and the book was both celebrated and controversial. To this day, it is an art history classic that continues to be discussed, especially since peoples views of both art and religion are continuously changing. In recent years, the attention given to Hilma af Klint has increased interest in the significance of the spiritual, and in turn has focused new light on Kandinsky and others in the first generation of abstract painters.  </p><p><i>The Sounding Cosmos</i> is now being published for the first time in a new edition with a new design that gives space to Kandinskys colourful paintings. The original text has been supplemented with a new foreword by Daniel Birnbaum and Julia Voss.</p>
