The Boy Who Lived Bok

'A story of resilience, pain and joy' - inews

As stunt double to Daniel Radcliffe in the Harry Potter film franchise, stuntman David Holmes helped to move J.K. Rowling's era-defining story from the page to the big screen. His work as a real-life Fall Guy enabled him to create some of the most memorable action sequences in the Wizarding World, as he became the first person ever to play Quidditch. In living his own hero's journey, David was also one of only a handful of people to have worn the iconic wizard's cape, glasses and scar in front of the cameras.

That is, until an accident changed his life forever.

During the making of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, David broke his neck in a stunt rehearsal and was instantly paralysed. From talented junior gymnast and stunt prodigy to fully qualified Hollywood stuntman, his story is a brutally honest portrait of a man who lost everything but found different ways to reimagine new possibilities with love, friendship and optimism - and he later co-created a BAFTA-nominated documentary about his life. David's behind-the-scenes look at one of the biggest film series of all time is both jaw-dropping and hilarious.

Powerful and emotional, his is a story of hope and vulnerability and paints a picture of what it truly takes to rebuild a life and become The Boy Who Lived.

Revenge Of The Tipping Point Bok

Twenty-five years after the publication of his groundbreaking first book, Malcolm Gladwell returns with a brand new volume that reframes the lessons of The Tipping Point in a startling and revealing light

What does the heartbreaking fate of the cheetah tell us about the way we raise our children? Why do elite universities care so much about sports? What is the Magic Third, and what does it mean for racial harmony? In this provocative new work, Malcolm Gladwell returns to the subject of social epidemics and tipping points, this time with the aim of explaining the dark side of contagious phenomena.

Through a series of riveting stories, Gladwell traces the rise of a new and troubling form of social engineering. He takes us to the streets of Los Angeles to meet the world's most successful bank robbers, rediscovers a forgotten television show from the 1970s that changed the world, visits the site of a historic experiment on a tiny cul-de-sac in northern California, and offers an alternate history of two of the biggest epidemics of our day: COVID and the opioid crisis.

Revenge of the Tipping Point is Gladwell's most personal book yet. With his characteristic mix of storytelling and social science, he offers a guide to making sense of the contagions of the modern world. It's time we took tipping points seriously.

Autocracy, Inc Bok

All of us have in our minds a cartoon image of what an autocratic state looks like, with a bad man at the top. But in the 21st century, that cartoon bears little resemblance to reality. Nowadays, autocracies are run not by one bad guy, but by sophisticated networks composed of kleptocratic financial structures, security services and professional propagandists. The members of these networks are connected not only within a given country, but among many countries. The corrupt, state-controlled companies in one dictatorship do business with corrupt, state-controlled companies in another. The police in one country can arm, equip, and train the police in another. The propagandists share resources-the troll farms that promote one dictator's propaganda can also be used to promote the propaganda of another-and themes, pounding home the same messages about the weakness of democracy and the evil of America. Unlike military or political alliances from other times and places, this group doesn't operate like a bloc, but rather like an agglomeration of companies: Autocracy, Inc. Their relations are not based on values, but are rather transactional, which is why they operate so easily across ideological, geographical, and cultural lines. In truth, they are in full agreement about only one thing: Their dislike of us, the inhabitants of the democratic world, and their desire to see both our political systems and our values undermine. That shared understanding of the world-where it comes from, why it lasts, how it works, how the democratic world has unwittingly helped to consolidate it, and how we can help bring it down-is the subject of this book.

One of the most significant challenges facing the international community today is how to secure stability and rebuild societies emerging from civil wars. International peace-building missions have been deployed in a range of countries emerging from civil war. The empirical record of international efforts to advance peace has been mixed. While some post-war countries have made significant strides towards peace and democracy, other countries have experienced a return to war. In yet other cases the outcome has been a partial implementation of peace where new conflicts have been generated in the process. In Building Peace, Creating Conflict? a group of experts discuss the conflictual dimensions of peace-building. The authors specialize in various aspects and cover several themes such as frozen conflicts and unending peace processes; the efficiency of peacekeeping operations in promoting democracy, and individual and collective dimensions of justice and reconciliation. Reaching A State Of Hope - Refugees, Immigrants And The Swedish Welfare State, 1930-2000 Bok
International migration and migrants have long been among the most debated topics in Europe and around the globe. How do immigrant policies differ between different nation-states? How are migrants and refugees met? Conflicting opinions on migration are not new. History gives ample examples of varying solutions and views.

In Reaching a State of Hope, the authors shed new light on refugee and labour immigration to twentieth-century Sweden. They focus on themes such as refugee policies, and refugee relief and reception. The discourse on the relation between refugees, labour migration, immigration, and the trade unions is another focus of this anthology. The essays are set against the background of the Swedish welfare state, from its first emergence before the Second World War until the 1990s. In 1930, Sweden had a population where only a fragment had foreign backgrounds, but seventy years later it had become a country of notable immigration.

This is the first time historians have taken up the challenge of presenting the Swedish experience to an international audience, with distinguished Swedish and international historians collaborating to put the Swedish case into a European context. Reaching a State of Hope is a significant contribution to the field of European migration history, and will make invaluable reading for scholars of history as well as anyone interested in migration politics and issues related to international migration and welfare states.

Contributors: Klas Åmark, Mikael Byström, Frank Caestecker, Pär Frohnert, Christina Johansson, Jesper Johansson, Georg Kreis, Karin Kvist Geverts, Attila Lajos, Paul A. Levine, Louise London, Cecilia Notini Burch, Pontus Rudberg, Johan Svanberg, Malin Thor Thureby, Zeki Yalcin.

Swedish information text about the book:

Internationell migration och invandrare har länge varit bland de mest omdebatterade ämnena i Europa och runt om i världen. Hur skiljer sig migrationspolitiken åt mellan olika länder? Hur bemöts invandrare och flyktingar? Motstridiga åsikter om migration är inget nytt - historien ger många exempel på olika lösningar och synsätt.

I Reaching a State of Hope kastar författarna nytt ljus på flykting- och arbetskraftsinvandring till Sverige under 1900-talet.

Medverkande: Klas Åmark, Mikael Byström, Frank Caestecker, Pär Frohnert, Christina Johansson, Jesper Johansson, Georg Kreis, Karin Kvist Geverts, Attila Lajos, Paul A.
