The Collected Prose Of Sylvia Plath Bok

A complete edition, including much previously uncollected and unpublished material

The Collected Prose stands alongside the Journals (2000) and the two volume Letters (2017 and 2018) to support a more complete understanding of Sylvia Plath's ambition and achievement as a writer. Expanding on the selection published as Johnny Panic and the Bible of Dreams (1977), this volume draws together all of Sylvia Plath's shorter prose, much of which is previously uncollected and unpublished. The volume embraces her experiments with the short story and pieces of non-fiction from the 1940s through to her more polished compositions of the fifties and early sixties, including fragments of fiction as well as her journalism and book reviews. Themes and associations become apparent as the volume offers new, intertextual ways of reading across Plath's oeuvre, colouring and shading our understanding and appreciation of her extraordinary talent.

The Conspiracy Against The Human Race Bok
In Thomas Ligotti’s first nonfiction outing, an examination of the meaning (or meaninglessness) of life through an insightful, unsparing argument that proves the greatest horrors are not the products of our imagination but instead are found in reality. “There is a signature motif discernible in both works of philosophical pessimism and supernatural horror. It may be stated thus: Behind the scenes of life lurks something pernicious that makes a nightmare of our world." His fiction is known to be some of the most terrifying in the genre of supernatural horror, but Thomas Ligotti’s first nonfiction book may be even scarier. Drawing on philosophy, literature, neuroscience, and other fields of study, Ligotti takes the penetrating lens of his imagination and turns it on his audience, causing them to grapple with the brutal reality that they are living a meaningless nightmare, and anyone who feels otherwise is simply acting out an optimistic fallacy. At once a guidebook to pessimistic thought and a relentless critique of humanity’s employment of self-deception to cope with the pervasive suffering of their existence, The Conspiracy against the Human Race may just convince readers that there is more than a measure of truth in the despairing yet unexpectedly liberating negativity that is widely considered a hallmark of Ligotti’s work.

The Twilight novels by Stephenie Meyer have developed from a bookseries into a powerful phenomenon with an astonishing impact. Not only have the books been adapted for the screen, but they have also spawned a huge number of works by fans, readers, reviewers, and scholars. The multifaceted Interdisciplinary Approaches to Twilight brings together scholars from a variety of disciplines in order to address the key themes in the complex global phenomenon that is Twilight; a phenomenon that transcends the boundaries between continents, generations, and producers and consumers and not least between different genres and media. The authors present in-depth literary and film analyses, and shed new light on perspectives on gender, fandom, vampire fiction and the economics of the book market. Interdisciplinary Approaches to Twilight fills a void in Twilight research, and, linked by their cutting-edge research and unique theoretical and analytical perspectives, the authors compellingly map a massive global experience that speaks to the realities of contemporary culture.

- Bestsellers are the books that sell well, are read by large numbers of people, and are widely talked about in the media and among readers. Yet there has been little research on the creation, reception, and cultural and social significance of bestsellers. Recognizing that popular narratives play an important role in the lives of millions of readers, Hype Bestsellers and Literary Culture looks closely at the literature so many people read. As global market phenomena, situated in between the power spheres of producers and consumers, bestsellers also highlight the interdependency of culture, market, and the individual. This volume addresses such diverse questions as the creation of hype, the role and the meaning of the author in the presentday media landscape, changes in the book trade, historical perspectives on bestselling literature, and the relationship between bestsellers and literary research.

For the first time ever, cutting-edge research about the Swedish Nobel Laureate Selma Lagerlöf and her work is made available to a world-wide audience in one comprehensive volume. Written by an international group of scholars, Re-Mapping Lagerlöf highlights the interdisciplinarity of current Lagerlöf research which frequently cuts across genres, media and disciplines. The structure of the book, with sections dedicated to performance, film and intermediality, transnational narratives and European transmissions, is reinforced by the extensive introductory portal. The authors explore themes such as Lagerlöf in and political contexts, her involvement in the womens movement, the construction of her celebrity persona, her role for early Swedish film, the transnationality of her work and its impact in international contexts. The volume includes a number of illustrations that are rarely reproduced, and the detailed bibliographical section will contribute to making Re-Mapping Lagerlöf an indispensable platform for Lagerlöf scholarship for years to come. It also offers a model for interdisciplinary research in the arts and humanities. Contributors: Jenny Bergenmar, University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
