Hiatt själv placerar "The Eclipse Sessions" vid sidan om två av sina bästa album - 1987 år "Bring the Family" (med Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe och Jim Keltner) och "Crossing Muddy Waters" från 2000. "The three albums are very connected in my mind", säger Hiatt. "They all have a vibe to them that was unexpected. I didn't know where I was going when I started out on any of them. And each one wound up being a pleasant surprise."

American Aquariums sjunde album, "Things Change", är ytan tvekan bandet starkaste och mest helgjutna platta hittills. Fronfiguren BJ Barham har utvecklats ytterligare som låtskrivare och sångare. På gott och ont. Självklart blir man extremt samspelta men det sliter hårt också. Och på "Things Change" är det en helt ny version av American Aquarium vi möter med Shane Boeker på gitarr, Joey Bybee på trummor, Ben Hussey på bas och Adam Kurtz på pedal steel och gitarr. Förutom BJ Barham förstås.. <br/>"Things Change spelades in i 3CG Records i Tulsa, Oklahoma och producerades av singer-songwritern John Fulbright. Bland gästerna märks John Moreland och Jamie Lin Wilson.<br/><br/>BJ Barham får slutorden: "As an artist, your goal is for the newest thing you do to be better than the last. You're slowly whittling away the bullshit to try and get to the truth. With this album, I learned how to cut some of that fat so that it's just truth. It's our best record."

Since he first made his recording debut at 14 playing guitar on The Replacement's Pleased To Meet Me he has become widely known both as a talented go-to musician and producer with five Grammy nominations to prove it.<br/> <br/>More in line with his South Memphis String Band records or his two Grammy-nominated solo albums than with the North Mississippi Allstars, Rock 'n Roll Blues as Luther puts it is "folk music with juke-joint drums and lots of harmonies."
