A pastor (Gunnar Bjornstrand) who seems to have lost his faith after his wife's death finds himself unable to give spiritual reassurance to a local fisherman (Max von Sydow), whose wife Marta (Ingrid Thulin) has long been in love with the pastor. The relationship of two sisters Ester (Ingrid Thulin) and Anna (Gunnel Lindblom) reaches breaking point when they arrive in a strange country and stay in a large hotel, empty but for a troupe of dwarf entertainers. Ester is suffering from a terminal disease and has become overly protective of Anna and, to escape, Anna goes out to find a man and ends up bringing back a waiter to her room. This then proceeds to both arouse and anger Ester culminating in a bitter and violent argument between the sisters.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

Her husband is a doctor but feels helpless, her father seems to watch her disease with fascination and keeps a journal of her condition, whilst she seduces her 17-year-old brother when she discovers he is a virgin. Marianne (Lena Endre) and Markus (Thomas Hanzon) share a happily married life together, along with their nine-year-old daughter Isabelle (Michelle Gylemo), and regular visits from their good friend David (Krister Henriksson). One night, with Markus away from the apartment, David reveals his attraction to Marianne and from this one moment a dangerous and intense affair soon develops. When Markus discovers what is going on, he demands a divorce and seeks custody of Isabelle, but it is not long before he too forgoes his right to claim innocence in the matter.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD / Widescreen</i>

The film, which is divided into five sections to reperesent the stages of a man's life, is set entirely on and around a remote mountain lake where a tiny Buddhist monastery floats on a raft amidst the breathtakingly beautiful landscape. Here an old Buddhist monk (Oh Young-Su) instructs his young child apprentice (Kim Jong-Ho) in Buddhist philosophy and shows him how to live in harmony with nature. But as the boy grows older, he becomes consumed by guilt, jealousy and sexual longing, and leaves the monastery to pursue his worldy desires. However, he eventually returns, exhausted and drained by his experiences, and (now played by the director, Kim Ki-duk) slowly matures and rebuilds himself to become a teacher himself. The film won the Audience Award at the 2003 San Sebastian film festival, among numerous other international awards.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>
