Enligt trumpetaren och dåvarande jazzradiochefen Bosse Broberg var 60-talet och särskilt dess senare del den verkliga guldåldern i svensk jazz. Här finns inspelningar med jazzens elit men även nya artister som Peps Person, Hansson & Karlsson samt utländska namn som George Russell och Red Mitchell.

Sångaren och pianisten Nat "King" Cole föddes i Montgomery, Alabama, 1919. När han var bara fem år flyttade familjen till Chicago där Nat "King" Cole startade sin karriär, blott 12 år gammal.<br/>Den här 10CD-boxen innehåller tjugotvå originalalbum från denna hyllade artist. I boxen hittar du många av hans hits och några rariteter som visar den extraordinära skicklighet denna ikoniska musiker besatt.

This box with 10 CDs is a real goody for those with a taste for jazz. It comprises altogether 17 original LPs made by the legendary trumpeter who could also sing with great feeling. Chet Baker's fans reckon him among creators of a trumpet playing style that was more restrained, lyrical and distinguished by a typical coolness inspired by Miles Davis.<br/><br/>At the age of ten he was given a slide trombone by his father that he exchanged for a trumpet, to be like his idol Harry James. In a very short time Baker taught himself to play simple swing tunes and showed he was also a talented improviser. He became well-known as a trumpeter in Gerry Mulligan's quartet. He was co-writer alongside Mulligan of the popular hit single "My funny Valentine".<br/><br/>Parallel to his popularity however, grew also his addiction to drugs and he had to endure a two-year stretch in jail. After making it through a long and difficult period he played better than ever before and made his best records, in 1978 in Europe, for several different labels. A further high point was a successful tour in Japan.<br/><br/>But despite success the life of this brilliant musician ended tragically. In 1988 he fell from the window of a hotel room in Amsterdam. It still remains unclear whether it was an accident that happened under the influence of drugs, or a case of suicide.

Blues, syncopation and blue notes are the key elements of jazz music. A blue note is sung or played at a slightly different pitch than standard. Typically the alteration is between a quartertone<br/>and a semitone, but this varies among performers and genres. The blue notes are usually said to be the lowered third, lowered fith and lowered seventh scale degrees. With the arrival of the bebop pioneers Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie who rebelled againsth the commercial swing craze of the thirties the blues and its elements like blue notes became along with complicated new chord progressions a new importance in modern jazz. Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, Horace Silver are considered the master and giants of the modern blue notes realm called hard bop which dominated the New York jazz scene in the fi fties and aesthetically was the anti-thesis to the cool sounds dominating jazz made on the West<br/>Coast. But also many other artists who for various reasons never received their fair share of the limelight delivered their individual blue notes to this movement. <br/><br/>Here we collected some of the best of them showing the variety of artistic statements of enduring value. Timeless music which brings new listening pleasure to the jazz affi cionado of today.<br/>A typical example is pianist and composer Elmo Hope who was a close companion of the two masters of modern jazz piano Thelonious Monk and Bud Powell. He only played with the best<br/>musicians of his generation like Clifford Brown, John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins. And so you´ll find plenty to discover and enjoy: the masterful trumpets of Thad Jones and Dizzy Reece, saxophonists like Clifford Jordan, Charlie Rouse, Frank Foster, Hank Mobley, Zoot Sims, Tina Brooks, Ike Quebec, Stanley Turrentine, Booker Ervin, pianists Horace Parlan, Duke Jordan, Kenny Drew, Sonny Clark, Duke Pearson, Ray Bryant, Jutta Hipp from Germany, the singers<br/>Sheila Jordan and Dodo Greene all accompagnied by the best rhythm sections of the day.

Dessutom förekommer namn som Thore Erling, Seymour Österwall, Charles Redland och de nya solisterna Åke Hasselgård, Arne Domnérus, Rolf Ericson samt Sven Stiberg, som var den första svenske elgitarristen.

Girls!"(1962). Another CD collects his songs from films like "Love Me Tender" (1956), "Flaming Star" (1960), "Wild In The Country" (1960) and "Follow That Dream".<br/><br/>A real treat: the LPs "Jailhouse Rock" (1958) and "King Of The Whole Wide World" (1961) were only released in South Africa, "Elvis Presley" (1956) was only available in Brazil.<br/>As a bonus there is a CD with his very first singles (1954/55) on Sun Records and another with all of his #1 chart hits from 1956 until 1962.
