As well as concert performances, Jarmusch includes behind-the-scenes footage and interviews filmed between 1976 and 1986. Longtime Neil Young producer, the late David Briggs, came up with the idea for the film, and the title refers to a comment he made to the singer shortly before his death: 'this is the year of the horse.
