In 'Rynox' (1931) a wealthy businessman is being threatened by a mysterious stranger. When he is found murdered, his son takes over his company and begins searching for the man responsible for his father's death. In the process, he uncovers a tragic secret. In 'Hotel Splendide' (1932) a thief is released from prison and travels to the site where he buried his stolen jewels only to discover that a hotel has been built there in the interim. 'The Night of the Party' (1934) is set during a dinner party hosted by the ruthless Lord Studholme (Malcolm Keen). When he is murdered during a party game, the police must uncover which of the guests is responsible for the crime. In 'Her Last Affaire' (1936) a politician's wife is found dead at a country inn but the investigation stalls when the only suspect has an alibi. Finally, 'Behind the Mask' (1944) is an abridged version of 'The Man Behind the Mask' (1936) and follows an attempted theft at a masked ball.<br/><br/><i>Typ: Blu-ray / Remastered</i>

After his daughter Christiane (Edith Scob) is badly injured in a car accident which he caused, plastic surgeon Dr. Génessier (Pierre Brasseur) is driven mad with guilt. To atone for his actions the doctor, aided by his loyal assistant Louise (Alida Valli), kidnaps young women and takes them to his secret laboratory where he removes their faces. However, each time he attempts to graft their skin onto Christiane's face, the surgery proves unsuccessful. Wandering samurai Sanjuro Kuwabatake (Mifune) arrives in a rural town in 19th century Japan which is overrun with criminals and is being fought over by two rival gangs. Determined to free the townsfolk from the oppressive grip of the gangsters, Sanjuro sparks open war between the two sides in the hope that they will destroy each other. However, his plans are complicated by the arrival of Unosuke (Nakadai), the younger brother of one of the gang leaders who prefers guns to swords and upsets the balance of power in the town. Tahei (Minoru Chiaki) and Matashichi (Kamatari Fujiwara) are two peasants hoping to make their fortunes by becoming soldiers but they run into trouble when they are mistaken for members of the Akizuki clan which has just been defeated after a fierce battle. Meanwhile, Rokurota Makabe (Mifune), a renowed Akizuki general, is attempting to escort Princess Yuki (Misa Uehara) to safety. When he encounters the two peasants, he realises they may be useful to him but as the four of them travel together, they face many challenges and Tahei and Matashichi's cowardice and greed could jeopardise Makabe's mission. Wandering samurai Sanjuro Tsubaki (Mifune) encounters a clan of samurai who have been betrayed by the local superintendent. They had intended to present a formal accusation of corruption within their clan but would have been crushed by the superintendent's men had Sanjuro not defended them. Sanjuro soon finds himself embroiled in a plot to kidnap the local chamberlain and facilitate a power grab by the superintendent, but jaded as he is, Sanjuro feels he must also object to the behaviour of his fellow samurai. The cast also includes Tatsuya Nakadai, Yunosuke Ito and Masao Shimizu.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>
