Anne and George (Emmanuelle Riva and Jean-Louis Trintignant) are a couple in their 80s who are enjoying their retirement, but that changes when, after an operation following a stroke, Anne is left wheelchair-bound and paralysed. Although she expresses her wish to die, even going so far as to make an attempt at taking her own life, George tries to remind her of the beauty and worth of life itself and the love that they share for each other. The feature won the Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for Best Foreign Language Film, and received a BAFTA for Best Leading Actress (Riva).

Typ: Blu-ray

Played out in two acts, the film opens with the wedding of Justine (Dunst) and Michael (Alexander Skarsgård): a sumptuous affair paid for by Justine's Claire (Charlotte Gainsbourg) and her husband John (Kiefer Sutherland). However, when Justine notices a strange star in the sky, she starts behaving oddly and the wedding is ruined. The film's second act follows Justine, now extremely weak and ill, after she goes to live with her sister. As Claire and John struggle to deal with Justine's condition, astronomy buff Claire becomes increasingly concerned about a large blue planet that is threatening to collide with the earth. Charlotte Rampling and John Hurt co-star.

Typ: Blu-ray

OBS! The mother is initially admitted to hospital following the incident, but her husband - a therapist - insists on taking her to their remote forest cabin, 'Eden', and looking after her himself. Presented in four chapters with a prologue and epilogue, the film charts the often violent and disturbing course of the couple's anguish as they immerse themselves in nature and act out their deep suffering in a sequence of increasingly bizarre and brutal rituals.

Typ: Blu-ray

In the fictional Hunsrueck village of Schabbach in 1840, inhabitants struggle with crippling poverty brought on by food shortages and years of bad harvests. The Simon family are particularly affected as patriarch and local blacksmith Johann (Rüdiger Kriese) struggles to put enough food on his family's table despite his best efforts. His son Jakob (Jan Dieter Schneider) tries to keep his head in books and out of his father's wrath but Johann favours his more practical older brother Gustav (Maximilian Scheidt) and berates Jakob for his perceived laziness. Young Jakob dreams of travelling to explore foreign lands and, like many others in the rural region, is tempted to leave by the promise of land in South America from the powerful Portuguese Empire.

Typ: DVD

Babette (Stéphane Audran), a chef and refugee from France's civil war, finds herself in a remote Danish hamlet working for two sisters who preside over its inhabitants.
