Ända sedan Ricky och Abby gifte sig och bildade familj har de velat ge sina älskade barn en trygg uppväxt, helst i eget hus. Nu har dottern Liz hunnit bli elva, sonen Seb är sexton och husdrömmen känns mer avlägsen än någonsin. I sitt stressiga vårdjobb kämpar Abby varje dag mot klockan för att hinna ge sina patienter en känsla av människovärde. För att slippa fler underbetalda ströjobb skaffar Ricky en skåpbil, men snart förstår han att uppdragsgivarens snåriga regelverk är uttänkt för att förarna ska utnyttjas och skuldsättas.<br/>Ricky och Abby tvingas ständigt arbeta allt hårdare, samtidigt som barnen alltför många kvällar lämnas ensamma hemma. Seb börjar undvika sitt hem och dras till fel kompisar, och trots att Abby och Liz försöker medla drabbar han till slut samman med sin frustrerade, temperamentsfulla pappa.

Yara (Ebla Mari), a young aspiring photographer, attempts to integrate the settling refugees with the locals by introducing herself to TJ Ballantyne (Dave Turner), the landlord of The Old Oak pub, itself on the brink of closure as the once thriving village begins to succumb to 30 years of economic decline. Despite his initial concerns about the refugees and the effect their needs will have on the poorer members of the community, TJ sets out to work with Yara to unite the village and restore its hope and prosperity.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

Ten years later, as the Great Depression takes its toll across the world, Jimmy returns to his home from the United States to care for his mother. When he sees the effects the Civil War and wider economic downturn are having on the community, he vows to open the hall once more to instill some good spirit into the people's hearts. Carol White stars as the bright young bride Cathy, who is driven to despair by the social and economic forces pitted against her as she struggles to keep her children in a housing system that is constantly working against her. Loach used voice-overs of actual people caught up in the system and managed to get the unfairness of the system into the debating arena at the time.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>

In the North-East of England, widower Daniel Blake (Dave Johns) is forced to stop working when he is taken ill with heart disease and so applies for Employment and Support Allowance from the Government. But his life is further thrown into disarray when his benefits are suddenly taken away from him and he is forced to jump through the many hoops of the bureaucratic system to get them back. During this time, he meets the similarly-troubled single mother Katie (Hayley Squires) whose financial problems mean she is being forced out of her home in London along with her two kids Dylan and Daisy (Dylan McKiernan and Briana Shann). The film was nominated for five BAFTAs including Best Film, Best Director (Loach), Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress (Squires) and won the award for Outstanding British Film of the Year.<br/><br/><i>Typ: DVD</i>
