His manager Colonel Tom Parker's persistent lobbying of William Morris Agency president Abe Lastfogel for a Presley screen test paid off on March 26, 1956, when the singer auditioned at Paramount for a supporting role in The Rainmaker. The American music critic Dave Marsh once commented something to the effect that there was no such thing as a bad Elvis Presley record, because at the very least it had Elvis Presley on it! Elvis did record a few real oddities in his day (No Room To Rhumba In A Sports Car, anybody?).
