Detta är Dylans första studioalbum med nyskrivna låtar på 8 år sedan albumet Tempest som kom 2012.

Under ca ett års tid 1965-66, släppte Bob Dylan tre av historiens bästa album. Är man i form då? Efter "Bringing it all back home" och "Highway 61 revisited" kom "Blonde on blonde". På ett år! Bob Dylan var fylld av energi och experimentlusta. "Blonde on blonde" innehåller en bländande blandning av garage, blues, country, rock och folk. Robbie Robertson och de andra grabbarna från The Band är med och spelar, och Dylan har magnifika ordlekar på detta enormt djupa album som var kulmen på hans elektriska rock'n'roll period. Han skulle aldrig mer släppa ett studioalbum som rockade så här hårt, eller som var lika sinnesvidgande.

Även om det finns några Dylan-album som rankas högre än "Desire", så ligger den ändå däruppe, bland hans bästa någonsin. Inspelad vid tiden för den tumultartade "Rolling Thunder Revue" turnén, fångar den stämningar som är unika för just detta album. Den inledande "Hurricane" är en klassiker som följs av maginifika "Isis" och andra mästerliga låtar, som avslutas med hans brev till hustrun Sara vid tiden för ett vacklande äktenskap. Längsta låten är "Joey" - en 11 minuters berättelse som inte alls känns lång. Så är det med bra låtar. "Desire" är ett av de stora mästerverken.
