Under en period av fem år har filmaren Tom Löwe (Timescapes) rest till världens alla hörn för att dokumentera storheten i det lilla och detaljerna hos det monumentala. Från ett fält i Nederländerna till Dubais tornande skyskrapor och många platser däremellan fångar hans kameror naturen och tidens gång, människor i arbete, vila och lek. Ett storslaget bildpoem med mäktig musik av kompositören Joseph Trapanese.<br/><br/>Awaken är en släkting i rakt nedstigande led till klassikern Koyaanisqatsi och har följdriktigt dess regissör Godfrey Reggio som exekutiv producent. I den rollen finner vi också Terrence Malick. Löwe har arbetat med bägge tidigare på filmer som Visitors och Knight of Cups. Här får vi också en sinnesutvidgande bioupplevelse som väcker tankar om livet, vårt förhållande till teknologi, tid och minne. <br/><br/>Utöver den uppenbara inspirationen hämtad från filmens producentduo har Löwe under intervjuer också nämnt filmskaparna Wong Kar-wai, Hou Hsiao-hsien, Edward Yang, Christopher Doyle, Lee Ping-bing, Hayao Miyazaki och Kenji Mizoguchi som betydelsefulla för ton och tempo i Awaken.
