Nina Simone's Baltimore can be seen as the one true hidden gem in her discography. Without any promotion or lead singles, Baltimore was a commercial failure with no chart position. In recent years, the album has been rediscovered and Baltimore has become one of her most popular songs of the internet era. The album is praised for its reggae production and the presence of beautiful vocal performances of songs originally by Judy Collins, Hall & Oates, and Randy Newman. <br/><br/>Baltimore is available as a limited edition of 3000 individually numbered copies on translucent red coloured vinyl and is housed in a gatefold sleeve.

Her concert debut, a classical recital, was given when she was 12. An upcoming talent. Her parents, who had taken seats in the front row, were forced to move to the back of the hall to make way for white people. An emerging civil rights activist was formed. In 1958 she recorded her first studio album for Bethlehem Records, followed by Colpix and Philips and in 1967 RCA Victor. 'Nuff Said! spawned the hit-singles "Ain't Got No - I Got Life" and the Bee Gees cover "To Love Somebody". After "Mississippi Goddam", from the same album, a civil rights message was the norm in Simone's recordings and became part of her concerts. In 1969 Simone recorded "To Be Young, Gifted And Black". Renditions of the song have been recorded by Aretha Franklin and Donny Hathaway.

Nina Simone was one of the best Blues singers of the 20th century. Only someone the likes of Billie Holiday and Bessie Smith had the power to lay a soul bare like she could, as her stripped-down "Be My Husband" shows. Naked like a field-holler, this song would later capture the imagination of Jeff Buckley and Antony Hegarty. <br/>Also on this record are classics such as "Nobody Knows When You're Down And Out", originally sung by Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday's signature song "Strange Fruit", as well as a Nina Simone favorite: "Sinnerman". There are few songs that capture the Spirit of religion, redemption and the fear of God as much as this ten-minute race of a song about a man trying to outrun the Devil. It's no wonder it was used in the key-scene of "The Thomas Crown Affair" and sampled by the likes of Kanye West, Talib Kweli and Felix da Housecat. <br/>Nina Simone never, ever disappoints.
